There are three categories of lighting: General, Task, and Accent or Ambient, a room should blend all types of lighting for optimal use and style.

Accent lighting, as the one above serve to bring attention to a particular object, highlighting a collection, art and architecture and in this particular case the color for the shade of the lamp was also chosen to relate to a beautiful bunch of violets, below the explosion of mimosa; this type of illumination can soften the mood or brighten dark corners.

Lessons from a Home Stager

Our taste has evolved over the year. As we watch decorating trends come and go, we've concluded that certain styles just stand the test of time better than others--especially if they are updated.

Recently we have gradually gravitated toward softer, prettier decorating scheme. We find it more relaxing; and not so trendy that you have to change out your stuff every three to five years.

But this blog is about decorating, not eating, so let's focus on organic decorating instead. By organic decorating, we are talking about products that use natural materials vs synthetic, and styles that are hand-made vs manufactured.

But we're not the DYI kind of people, we're more like do-it-for-me kinda people, so we rather buy the "perceived" hand-made part.

Colorful Upholstery Furniture from CR Laine

One of our biggest complaints about American furniture manufacturers is how BORING their furniture can be. Year after year you see this same old stuff--they call it classic but we think they are just unimaginative. We're talking about brown, dark wood furniture, heavy upholstery in taupe and cream, plain styling. The sad thing is, 80% of households have this stuff. Why? Because we don't have lots of choices.

So we were really happy to see some colors this seasons from some of the old-school uphoslterers. They are finally getting it! Who wants to be surrounded by drab all the time! Give us some vibrancy and happiness! Give us colors!

Here are a few upholstered beds that we just love. It is made by Pepper Berry, a small boutique manufacturer based out of Los Angeles. Run by the nicest couple we ever met, Matt and Michelle Cicero, Pepper Berry sells to furniture stores and interiors designers. The company makes beautiful Furniture that are well-made and well-priced।
As with any upholstery products, you can customize the beds with different fabrics. You can also make slip covers for them if you feel like changing the look according to the season. The bedroom, in a way, is the easiest room to decorate , yet it could be the hardest. It's easy because the furniture required are so simple. Basically you will need a bed, nighstands, an ottoman maybe, a couple of chairs if your room is of a decent size. Yet the range of the choices are huge-it's hard to know where to start!
